Students interested in combining Jewish Studies with Management skills and working within the Jewish communal world should consider the AJU’s MAJCS program. It has been developed to enrich the Jewish knowledge of students who want to be professional leaders in the many institutions that comprise the Jewish community. Whether intending to work in federations, synagogues, schools, social service agencies, camps or JCC’s, the program will provide the technical know-how and Judaic knowledge base necessary to effectively lead and manage a successful organization.
The course of study is designed to provide breadth through covering subjects in five areas: Management, Jewish history, Jewish sociology, Jewish law and ritual, and Jewish texts. Judaic courses are taken in conjunction with the Ziegler School of Rabbinic studies as well as the Fingerhut School of Education, allowing for an interdisciplinary learning environment. Each student will select three optional courses to supplement the core courses for a total 58 units. There are internship requirements as well. Each student will complete 600 hours of internships in federations and/or other Jewish organizations to learn the job skills that enable one to succeed in this exciting and challenging environment. The writing of a Master’s thesis completes the degree. The MAJCS at American Jewish University is an innovative program that will carry forward the AJU’s mission of educating the next generation of leaders for Jewish communities around the world.
